PETA Attacks the World Wildlife Fund

PETA is no stranger to attacking any group of people that deal with animals and who will not goose-step to the PETA beat. The newest one being attacked by PETA is the World Wildlife Fund which PETA calls the Wicked Wildlife Fund.
The World Wildlife Fund is an animal welfare group and is the leading organization in wildlife conservation and endangered species.While I am sure that the WWF is not a perfect animal welfare organization, they certainly seem to appear more moderate and for the most part have common sense.
PETA on the other hand is an animal rights group who has got to be the biggest nut jobs out their today. I will give you one example out of hundreds to show you what I mean. Last year (2008), PETA decided that it would be a good idea if an an ice cream company would make their product from human breast milk rather then cows milk. Need I say any more on that subject. Animal Rescue Groups Trying To Save Dogs From HSUS

Here is another good example of what I am talking about. In February, animal rescue groups are pleading with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) not to destroy 150 dogs and puppies. They even offered to pay them money.

"They even extended offers of assistance, support, and resources. But HSUS refused, arguing that all the dogs should be killed, including puppies who were born after the seizure and posed no threat to public safety." But the HSUS insists that the dogs are to be put down.

"The resulting outcry forced HSUS CEO Wayne Pacelle, who had defended the slaughter and HSUS’ handling of the criticism, to back down. While stopping short of an apology or admitting they were wrong in having the dogs killed (including forcing a volunteer to return puppies to be killed), they agreed to re-evaluate their position and meet in Las Vegas to come up with a more humane policy.'

The Humane Society of the United States runs no animal shelter of any kind. Last year in 2007, they earned 107 million dollars. Just where did they spend that kind of money?? It sure wasn't helping out animals in trouble.

Read it for yourself.

Canadian Humane Societies arguing.

During the 2009 Calgary Stampede, the Alberta SPCA and the Calgary Humane Society (CHS) were on hand to insure that all animals involved with the stampede were being treated properly. No problem...right...wrong. A British Columbia animal-rights group is at odds with its Alberta counterpart over claims of animal cruelty at Canada's largest and most famous rodeo.

The Vancouver Humane society has criticized the Calgary Humane Society and the Alberta SPCA. They felt that they should not be at the stampede. Not exactly sure why. The CHS stated "We are very confident in our animal welfare procedures. We care passionately about these animals. We work with the Alberta SPCA and we will continue to do so."

And to get more media attention out of the deal, the Canadian Humane Society joined in the fracas. They wanted the T.V. stations to stop broadcasting the stampede. " On Thursday, CTV News reported on the Humane Society of Canada's request to the CRTC to ban all broadcasting of rodeo events." Confused ?? There's more to come yet.

The Calgary animal rights group is also in there. This animal rights group is on the stampede grounds with about a dozen people protesting against it. So as it stands right now, we have two groups supporting the Calgary stampede and two groups protesting against it.

I need a program to figure all this out.

PETA virses Friends of Animals

An ongoing war between two US animal rights groups - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and Friends of Animals (FOA) culminated in a bizarre showdown last year that saw each group outside a KFC restaurant with PETA lauding the chain for including substitute chicken on its menu while FOA protested against both PETA and KFC.

Hostilities between the groups stretch back over several years with the latest installment involving PETA suing FOA in an attempt to close down their rehabilitation house for non-native animals. Allow me to point out here that both animal rights organizations are using donated money to fight each other. This money was supposed to go towards helping animals. (or so I thought)

A 2006 courtroom drama between People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and fellow animal rights group Friends of Animals (FOA) and its subsidiary Primarily Primates unfolded into a ridiculous farce that saw a bunch of PETA funded chimpanzees attempt to sue FOA for alleged animal abuse. Oh my god-now we have the monkeys suing Friends of Animals.

The batty legal proceedings were first instigated in 2006 and named nine chimpanzees as the plaintiffs. PETA funded the 'plaintiffs' and alleged they had been abused.

I am getting a headache now.

Animal rights Groups Fighting With Each Other

I sometimes find it hard to believe that animal rights groups are now fighting with each other.I n the fight over the moral high ground or for media attention or for the top spot at the money trough, PETA is suing Friends of Animals.

"If dressing up like clan members, exploiting women in protests, investing in the animal industry, or euthanize 80-97% of 'rescued' animals doesn't change your mind about PETA, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, perhaps their recent lawsuit will get your attention.
Is PETA suing KFC as part of their KFCruelty campaign? Are they suing Lowes for selling mousetraps? PETA instead has decided to take it easy on those guys and instead go after the Friends of Animals animal advocacy organization's primate sanctuary."

Yes folks you heard correctly. If it's not the Sea Shepherd Society fighting on the high seas with Greenpeace over which group is going to take on the Japanese whalers then it's PETA suing other animal rights groups.

In 2006, the battle between the animal rights group Sea Shepherd Society and Greenpeace got so out of control that the two ships were ramming each other.

"On christmas day, captain Watson (leader of Sea Shepherd) announced having intercepted the factory ship NM. On christmas day, the environmental ships sent each other friendly wishes. Shortly after that, they tried to ram each other in a real sea battle.

Misled and betrayed

The bad blood between Greenpeace and Sea Shepherd goes back a long time. Paul Watson was one of the founders of Greenpeace in 1972. But 7 years later he left the organisation because it was too tame and founded Sea Shepherd. While Greenpeace adopted an ethic of non-violence, Watson believes in confrontation and aggression to achieve goals. “Greenpeace are "the Avon ladies of the environment" and are more interested in publicity than in enforcing international law”.

Few days ago Sea Shepherd accused Greenpeace of not wanting to reveal the whereabouts of the whaling fleet.

"Greenpeace has misled Sea Shepherd and betrayed us”, Watson shouted. “The Japanese fleet does not give a damn about protests. Greenpeace just take pictures and hang banners. We are down here to enforce international conservation law and to stop the illegal whaling operations."

Greenpeace retorted: "Greenpeace distance themselves from Sea Shepherd because of their inability to commit to non-violent tactics. But we'll do what we can to put bodies between harpoons and whales and protect the whales non-violently,"

A Greenpeace activist climbed recently on a wounded whale to prevent the Japanese from launching a second harpoon. The Japanese tried to get him of with water hoses.
It got so heated up, that a collision between the ships nearly couldn't’ be avoided. Both Greenpeace and Sea Shepherd say that the competing organisation tried to ram their ship, to be able to chase the Japanese alone.

Whaling fleet disappeared

While both organisations where fighting each other and tried to figure out who has the right to protect the whales, the Japanese whalers disappeared from the seas. The three ships search desperate with radar and helicopter for the whalers. It appears the disagreement is solved."

Sea Shepherd faces $487.000 cost.

The ship Farley Mowat was seized by Canadian government last spring for interfering with the seal hunt. Now they want the Sea Sheperd Society to pay for berthing expenses.

"The federal government has filed a $487,000 statement of claim against the seal hunt protest vessel Farley Mowat, owned by the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, to recover the costs it has incurred for maintaining the ship since it was seized last April during the annual hunt.
"The Government of Canada filed that statement of claim against the Farley Mowat (Thursday)," said Department of Fisheries and Oceans spokesman Phil Jenkins on Friday.
The ship has been in the custody of the government and docked at Sydney, N. S., since it was raided on April 12, 2008 for allegedly encroaching on seal hunters near Cape Breton 12 days earlier."

"On top of the$487,000, the government also paid for air surveillance to track the Farley Mowat, travel and overtime for fishery officers and coast guard surveil-lance, according to documents obtained under access to information laws by the International Fund for Animal Welfare and given to Canwest News Service.
The costs attached to air surveillance and expenses for fishery officers were not detailed in the documents, but logs show icebreaker George R.Pearkes spent nearly 12 full days between March 29 and April 14 supporting the RCMP in tracking and seizing the Farley Mowat.
Government officials refused to provide the cost to operate the icebreaker for a day, arguing it is not related to the Farley Mowat case because the icebreaker is owned by the government and the crews are on salary. The department has in the past said it costs $40,000 per day to operate a larger icebreaker, the Amundsen, an Arctic research ship."

Animal rights groups fighting with themselves

I am going to jump in here once again and add my little piece of the Greenpeace/ Sea Sheperd Conservation Society fight. yes-Paul Watson is too much of a wing-nut for greenpeace. yes-Paul Watson likes the violence just a little too much. But what really burns Paul Watson's butt is that greenpeace does little or nothing for the seals and whales other then paying it some lip service. For that Greenpeace pulls in 10's of millions dollars a year. Sea Sheperd Conservation Society pulls in 2 and a half million.Yes-Greenpeace is not radical enough for Paul Watson, but much more then that is the fact that greenpeace makes more the 10 times the money for doing little or nothing. I am sure he is green with envy. In all the fighting the two animal rights groups are doing, they are not helping out any animals, just fighting over who is going to make the most money.

A letter from Greenpeace:
Dear (Name withheld), "Thank you for your e-mail and your interest in Greenpeace!Non violence is non negotiable. It is the cornerstone of Greenpeace's support and success for the last 37 years.Sea Shepherd has consistently threatened to ram ships at sea in the harshest ocean in the world - the Southern Ocean. Sea Shepherd has also targeted the crew of whaling fleets with missiles, including glass bottles filled with butyric acid. Neither act can be dismissed as just property damage. Both are a threat to human life and as such are completely unacceptable to Greenpeace.Greenpeace will continue to act to defend the whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary, but will never attack or endanger the whalers.Thanks again for your support and we look forward to hearing from you in the future!"

For a Green and Peaceful Future,Sebastian Jannelli

From the sea shepherd web site:
Commentary by Paul Watson Founder and President of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society
"It does not matter what is true, it only matters what people believe is true."- Dr. Patrick Moore, President of Greenpeace Canada 1981Enough is enough. The Greenpeace fraud about saving the whales must be exposed. For years, I have been tolerating their pretense of action and watching them rake in tremendous profits from whaling.Greenpeace makes more money from anti-whaling than Norway and Iceland combined make from whaling. In both cases, the whales die and someone profits.I just received two urgent emotional appeals from Greenpeace to save the whales. The first was from Melanie Duchin and the second from Nathan Santray.Melanie, who describes herself as a Greenpeace ocean campaigner, wants money so she can go down to the Southern Oceans to save the whales. She says she will be fighting to help the whales escape and states that for every dollar you donate it will mean another hour, day, or week that Greenpeace can stay on the water "saving" whales.Their success according to Melanie will depend on YOU sending a donation NOW. She's right, of course. The Greenpeace campaign is not about looking for whaling ships. Success to Greenpeace is about recruiting memberships.What Melanie does not tell you is that Greenpeace has already raised tens of millions of dollars this year to "save" the whales, and tens of millions of dollars the year before, and the year before that.In fact, Greenpeace has raised a mind-boggling hundreds of millions of dollars pretending to save whales over the years and yet they have not stopped the Japanese from killing a single whale

From the Greenpeace website:
Paul Watson is the founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and an early member of Greenpeace. Over the last few years, Paul has become extremely critical of Greenpeace in the press and at his website. The information below is provided as a service to our supporters to get a few facts out on the table about Paul's history with Greenpeace and the nature of our disagreements. Paul Watson became active with Greenpeace in 1971 as a member of our second expedition against nuclear weapons testing in Amchitka, and went on to participate in actions against whaling and the killing of harp seals. He was an influential early member but not, as he sometimes claims, a founder.He was expelled from the leadership of Greenpeace in 1977 by a vote of 11 to one (only Watson himself voted against it).in 1986, Sea Shepherd carried out an action against the Icelandic whaling station in Hvalfjoerdur and sank two Icelandic whaling vessels in Reykjavik harbor by opening their sea valves;
[1] in December 1992, Sea Shepherd sank the vessel Nybroena in port;
[2] Sea Shepherd claimed to have sank the Taiwanese drift net ship Jiang Hai in port in Taiwan and to have rammed and disabled four other Asian drift net ships;
[3] a Canadian court ordered Watson and his former ship, the Cleveland Armory, to pay a total of $35,000 for ramming a Cuban fishing vessel off the coast of Newfoundland in June 1993;
[4] in January 1994 the group severely damaged the whaling ship Senet in the Norwegian port of Gressvik.
